National Thrift Shop Day is celebrated annually in August to recognize the positive impact thrift stores have on our communities, celebrate sustainable shopping, incredible second-hand finds, and the organizations that make every purchase count.
This year, we're celebrating early on Saturday, August 15!
To celebrate, join our National Thrift Shop Day Passport Challenge! Visit two or more participating stores, collect your passport stamps, and enter to win great prizes from local businesses. Discover unique treasures, support local organizations, and take part in a day that celebrates the power of shopping second-hand.
What started in 2025 as a shared idea between Bissell Thrift Shop, FIND, and The Mustard Seed Thrift Store is back for its second annual celebration.
We may each have our own story, but we're united by a shared commitment to supporting people experiencing poverty and homelessness in our community. Through our thrift stores, every donation and every purchase helps create opportunities, fund essential programs, and strengthen the community we all call home.
The prizes

About: FIND is a social enterprise of Homeward Trust Edmonton that provides essential furnishings free of charge to individuals and families who are transitioning out of homelessness, and supplies low-cost, quality furniture and housewares for sale to the public.

Pick up a free passport and entry form at any participating location.
Visit at least two participating thrift stores to collect your stamps, then complete the entry form with your contact information. Have a staff member verify your entry before placing it in a ballot box for your chance to win.
No purchase necessary. Simply visit participating stores to collect your stamp. You must be 18 years or older to submit a ballot and win a prize.

Bring your completed entry form to any participating store. A staff member will verify your passport and place your entry into the contest ballot box.
Ballot boxes are located near the tills at each participating store.

Yes. Free parking is available at all locations, although onsite parking at Bissell Thrift Shop and The Mustard Seed Thrift Store is limited. Street parking is available.

Absolutely! Everyone is welcome to visit the Thrift Shops. A passport is only required if you'd like to enter the prize draws. To enter to win you must be 18 years or older.

Each participating thrift store reinvests proceeds into its organization's mission. Bissell Thrift Shop, FIND, and Mustard Seed Thrift Store use thrift store revenue to support programs that help individuals and families experiencing or exiting poverty and homelessness in our community.

Contest Rules & Regulations
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Contest begins at 9:00 a.m. MDT on Saturday, August 15, 2026, and closes at the end of business on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the final participating thrift store location. Open to legal residents of Alberta who are 18 years of age or older. Passport Challenge valid only on Saturday, August 15, 2026. Passports available while quantities last. Limit one (1) entry per person. Collect two (2) passport stamps to qualify for the Community Prize Draw or three (3) passport stamps to qualify for the Grand Prize Draw. Twenty-four (24) prizes available to be won. Winners will be selected by random draw. Approximate retail values of prizes are subject to change.
